Best Odyssey Trip (full story)
01:30am, 15 Mar 2007

Well I’m back on dry land after being on the Best Odyssey for 2 weeks. The trip was just awesome being on a luxury Catamaran and sailing in paradise through the Caribbean, anchoring at different islands and getting to enjoy the beauty and the things it has to offer especially the great conditions for kiteboarding. I flew down to Grenada and met up with Gavin (Captain) and Jody (First mate), we loaded all the gear onto the catamaran and set sail to our first spot where we were going to kite. We kited this spot in Grenada called Hog Island for 3 days powered on my 9m waroo pro except for 1 day which was no wind but there were still things to do like fishing, diving and whole bunch of other things. We then headed to the north end of Grenada and kited for a day in front of an island called sugar loaf was lighter that day so we were riding on 13m. We stayed the night there and headed the next day to the island next to it called Sandy Island, which was only a mile away. We arrived to pure beauty with palm trees coving the whole island and hanging over the waters edge it was like being in Fiji with a reef protecting the island and crystal blue water and no one there except for all of us on the Best Odyssey. After lunch we set sail for 2 hours to the next island called Carriacou wind was great powered on 9’s again so we stayed there for a few days kiting this small bay protected by a point that had mangrove bushes along the waters edge so there was no wind making it glassy. We had to have aour kites high above the mangrove bushes, crashing was a mission, as we would have to go back to shore and hot launch again when a gust came through. We had some insane sessions there and wished we could stay longer but we had to keep going, but we knew there were going to be more insane places to ride. We were now heading to the Tobago Cays 4 small islands protected by a horseshoe shaped reef but along the way we stopped at different islands and kited them for a few days these were Mopion, Union and Petit Tabac. Reaching these 4 amazing islands with no one on them and surrounded by clear blue water we were just amazd that we totally forgot that the wind was blowing. It was light and we were riding on 15m, was great riding my 15m waroo with the limited edition colour white was awesome doing the photos just the white and blue stands out strong. The next day I woke up early, going on the deck the wind was blowing a constant 20 knots, I woke Gavin up to dingy me over to one of the small islands of the Tobabgo Cays. Got all prepared and went out, lit on 9 it was back to training, with a good solid hour of riding the rains came and killed the wind. So from then on we left the beautiful waters of the Tobago Cays and sailed to Canouan and stayed there for 2 days snorkeled and explored the island the first day and also relaxed, the next day we headed over to a resort that we found out was one of Donald Trumps. We were the only boat anchored there and we had the whole place to ourselves waking up at 6 in the morning and riding lit on 9m the whole day with head high waves breaking on the reef out at the back so was just a playground flat water, reef break and wind what more could we want. We did some sick photos and the video guy Jeff got some awesome footage of everyone. We left that afternoon to an island called Mustigue arriving in the evening we chilled and watched a movie on one of the flat screen TV’s that the boat had. In the morning we went on land for some site seeing and souvenir shopping. After lunch we headed over to a small island called Petit Nevis, which was next to the island called Bequia which we were going to, to get supplies. Arriving to the island Petit Nevis was like being in Indo with a left point break breaking on a shallow reef and palm trees shading the beach, no one wanted to kite here as it was a sketchy launch but I wasn’t going to leave without trying. Got out safely on my 15m waroo new colour the white which is an insane colour for photos. I had a good 2-hour session playing in the chest high waves. Then after we packed up and headed to the marina in Bequia and got supplies. For the rest of the day we enjoyed the hospitality of the local people there and got to relax on its beautiful beaches. We had dinner that night and straight after we set sail to do a night sail for St Lucia our last destination of this trip. Night sail was cool seeing all the islands lit up in the distance. Gavin and Jody were amazing, sailing all through the night while we slept. When waking up we were anchored off a large sandy beach with beautiful landscaping. We had 2 days left in St Lucia the first day there was no wind but our last day the wind had picked up and I was powered on my 9 while others were on 11 and 13’s so I got to do loads of training on this trip with all kinds of wind conditions. Big thanks goes to Gavin and Jody for making this trip amazing and also Trisha our chef onboard who cooked us some insane meals. Also a big thanks goes to my sponsors bestkiteboarding for sending me on this trip of a lifetime and also for being the main sponsor on the Odyssey and also to the other sponsors that are making this journey happen.
